In this episode, I want to talk about marks of a good sermon.

Years ago, many years ago at this point, I read a quote and I don't really know or remember who to attribute the quote to

and really it has become for me over the years of a personal mantra. It's a great quote. It simply says

that there are three types of preachers.

There are those you can listen to, those you cannot listen to, and those whom you must listen to.

Indeed, there are three types of sermons.

There are sermons that you just can't listen to. There are sermons that you can listen to,

and there are sermons that you must listen to. Indeed, it should be the goal of every preacher

to preach in that final category, right? Not an attempt to make yourself great in the eyes of others, but I talk about the kind of

preaching of sermons that must be listened to. I'm referring to compelling preaching,

preaching that demands a hearing, preaching that demands a response, preaching that demands a verdict.

What does that look like? How can you gauge whether or not that sermon was a good sermon?

Before we discuss that, let me clear the debris out of the way.

You cannot judge whether or not the sermon is good or bad based upon how people respond.

I'm going to say that again.

You cannot judge the value of the sermon based upon how people respond to your

preaching. The Lord Jesus Christ was the greatest preacher who ever lived. And for instance,

in John 6th as he preached, they walked away from him until from thousands.
