Hey everyone. Dr. Alex Koo, emergency physician, back again, and thanks to Dr. McCollum for having me back on EM Basic again.

Today, we'll cover a topic just a little more acute than last time's dental emergencies.

Extremity crush injuries. You may be thinking, but Alex, aren't crush injuries just another trauma resuscitation?

Your trauma resuscitated should be ran exactly the same way,

systematically and algorithmically, whether it's a crush injury,

gunshot wound to the chest, or a fall from a height.

But let's entertain a different scenario for a moment.

Imagine you're running a medical cardiac arrest,

and you're doing your ACLS algorithm, high-quality CPR, giving epinephrine, pulse checks, etc.

Is that all you're doing? Following an algorithm? No, you're going that step further. Why is this

patient in cardiac arrest? You see a fistula on the patient, and this prompts you that this patient missed dialysis and is hyperclymic, or maybe there's a swollen left leg,

and the records show she recently was discharged from the hospital. Is this a massive PE? Then you

think about the potential treatments and consequences. Trauma resuscitation is no different. Seeing a
