1:00.2 | In this presentation, we're going to review the criteria for the personality disorder. I'm not going to go through each one in the objectives. |
1:03.3 | And then we'll identify eight common errors in diagnosis. |

1:11.4 | differentially diagnose, especially considering the function of the behaviors and whether |
1:17.0 | it's a result of trauma. Personality disorder diagnosis is something that in my opinion, |
1:27.1 | and I say that because I haven't actually gone out and done |
1:31.4 | an objective study on it, but doing clinical supervision and talking to clinicians, |
1:38.8 | I personally believe that personality disorder diagnoses are given far too often. |
1:46.1 | But regardless, we need to understand where these behaviors are coming from. |
1:53.2 | Why did these behaviors develop? |
1:55.4 | And what function are they serving to help the person feel safe? |
2:02.1 | Personality disorders must be, must be, an enduring pattern of inner experience and |
2:09.3 | behavior that deviates markedly from cultural expectations in two or more areas. |

2:15.9 | So there's two, well, three caveats here. |
