This is CBSI on the world. Behind the Black, Bob Zimmerman is here, your donations and

0:09.6

subscriptions, get you a ride on an interstellar traveler. Bob, three-eye atlas is from another

0:17.5

place in the universe. We have moments to observe it as it flies through, headed to unknown fate.

0:24.4

Who's observing this week? Thank you.

0:26.8

Yeah, yeah.

0:27.7

You know, right now it's not visible from the Earth.

0:30.2

Before it went behind the sun, that you tried to use as many telescopes on the ground here,

0:34.9

as well as Hubble and Webb, to look at it and try to get some data. It was very far away. They get, they got a lot of data. Most of the data says very straightforwardly, it is a comet. It is actually a remarkably normal comment, considering that it's from outside our solar system. It is unique in its own ways. There's all comments are unique in their own ways. It's all people are unique in their own ways. It's all planets and asteroids unique in their own way. But generally, it's a comet. It's behaving just like comets do. Is it getting close to the sun? The heat from the sun is causing ice and other material to sublimate a way to produce the tails. Right now, being behind the sun is actually closer to Mars and so several of the

1:12.2

orbiters around Mars are trying to look at it have been looking at it and so I

1:16.0

posted a picture from Europe's trace gas orbiter that's circling Mars I've got that

1:20.9

on behind the black they actually did a series of pictures and created a movie this is

1:25.4

a screen capture from the last image.

1:31.3

And I posted it to just point out that really we're not getting that much information about the comet from these images.

1:33.5

What these images, it's only a dot.

1:35.0

It's only a few pixels, of course.

1:36.2

What this image, though, did tell them is it allowed them to pinpoint the location and

1:40.7

the trajectory of three-eye atlas much more precisely, which will allow for further

1:46.2

observations more accurate and more successful by the Jupiter probe juice that is on its way

1:55.3

to Jupiter but isn't even a better position to try to get good data.

1:58.3

And it's in fact in the process of doing so, but it won't

2:00.9

be able to download the data until February because of the Sun's location. But either way,

2:06.1

it's getting better data, and this data helps us understand where this comet is located.
