I'm John Batchel with my colleague, Colonel Jeff McCausen, CBS News.

The Prime Minister of Poland in these last days pointed a finger at Belarus and then through

that to Russia. Why? There was an act of sabotage on the major rail line from Poland into Ukraine. Dynamite was used,

we're told, and then we're told two Ukrainian nationals were responsible and they'd fled into

Belarus. This is gray zone. This is hybrid warfare. This could be a false flag. It could be an operation of amateurs. It could be a

signal, non-known, but it's part of the matrix you must solve if we're to solve Ukraine.

Russia is making war on NATO. It says it routinely. And therefore, everything that happens

across the European map, and there are other

incidents. I'm just detailing one. Suggest that Russia has cards that it means to play. Jeff,

Ukraine is not a positive story, but we don't have transparency on the front line, on the government

in Keefe, nor the government in Moscow and Minsk, and even

Warsaw, extend it that far. Can you read the terrain right now? Are these opposing forces ready to

talk, or do they want to fight all winner? It's my read that there's little appetite,

particularly in Moscow, for any type of negotiations. Now,

surprisingly, Mr. Trump announced today, he was sending the Secretary of the Army as his representative

in concert with Mr. Whitkov, his principal negotiator, and several senior military officers,

to include chief of staff of the army, to Ukraine for a sensing

session of the Ukraine, against to get a sense of the state of the battlefield, and frankly,

a sense of whether or not the Ukrainians are willing to negotiate. But the Ukrainian seems

to me, John, have been very outspoken in their willingness to negotiate. The only precondition

they've called for is some kind of a ceasefire who then

sets a stage for negotiations. Apparently, Mr. Zelensky has made overtures, particularly to Turkey,
