Dan Vogel is a sixth-generation Mormon most well known for his biography, Joseph Smith: The Making of a Prophet—the product of decades of research into the life of Joseph Smith. In these Mormon Stories interviews, we are excited to delve into Dan’s own personal Mormon background and to begin to understand the motivations behind his ground-breaking work into the life of Joseph Smith.

1:00.9	today from Dan Vogel's house in Westerville, Ohio. That's where Dan lives and we are so thrilled
1:11.9	to bring to you this interview today. Dan Vogel is probably, I would say, the most prolific and
1:19.3	prominent Mormon historian of our time. Dan is the author of, among other things, Joseph Smith,
1:28.0	the making of a prophet. I just have to say that this is an amazing book. It's published by
1:34.5	Signature Books and everyone right now needs to go out and buy this book and read it. It was
1:42.7	actually published around the same time Ruffstone Rolling came out and I can't believe before.
1:48.2	What's that? It came before Ruffstone Rolling and I can't believe that it wasn't until 2018,
1:54.2	2019 that I actually read this book. I'm ashamed to admit that but I'm just going to own it
2:00.8	but this book is phenomenal and it's really important and I feel like Dan's a more prolific
2:09.0	and probably important Mormon historian of Joseph Smith than Richard Bushman and I'm sticking with
2:14.8	that. Today we are going to be interviewing Dan Vogel. We're going to be talking about his life
2:22.1	and we're going to be talking about his scholarship on Joseph Smith. This is going to include
