One afternoon at the end of the school year, Kane and Terry Horman eagerly waited at the bus stop for their son.

They were prepared to be bombarded with stories from that day's science fair and talent show.

Unfortunately, their joy would soon turn to worry when Kieran didn't get off the school bus.

And then their worry turned to horror

when they discovered he actually hadn't been to school at all that day. His stepmother
