I'm John Batchel with my colleague Charles Burton, the author of The New Book,

Great deal of attention in Canada because of the moment, the moment when the trading relationship with

tariffs, but also to do with trade, also to do with trust, all of that.

In the meantime, a new government in Ottawa, headed by a central banker, Mark Carney,

and a budget just published, and talk for some time that Canada needs to rearrange its trade relationship with China

to offset what appears to be,

what is said to be dependency upon the United States trade.

Charles, is there a general opinion of how Mr. Carney is doing with China as opposed to Washington?

Yes, I think the general opinion is that Mr. Carney is doing the right thing with regard to China.

So the number of the proportion of Canadian population that has been supportive of my kind of urging with regard to extreme caution in dealing with the Chinese Communist Party is going down, while skepticism about

any kind of agreements with the United States is going up among Canadian people, it's still,

you know, there's still, the United States is still favored by 10% more than, than those that

favor China as the place that Canada should be focused on.

But it's it's rather shocking to see the willingness of Canadians to abandon concerns about Canadian security,

sovereignty, interference in Canadian democracy, massive espionage and purloining of dual-use military technologies,

some of which we share through the five eyes with the United States, with a pipe dream that China will open up its market to Canada,

and Canada will be able to compensate

for the downturn in the Canadian economy because of the Trump tariffs and expression of

desire to re-shore the auto sector. But, you know, based on past Canadian experience, as I point out in my book, being nice to the Chinese Communist Party and not addressing their increasing infiltration into Canadian society and democracy has never resulted in Canada getting
