Summary

Alexis Durham is the in-house Herbalist and Botanical Affairs Supervisor for Herb Pharm, and an instructor for the Herbaculture Internship program. She earned her B.Sc. in Herbal Sciences from Bastyr University and began teaching about herbs and herbalism while working for the American Botanical Council. An opportunity to learn more from the plants themselves led her to Horizon Herbs and southern Oregon, where she fell in love with gardening and seed-saving. Alexis then returned to Bastyr University as their Garden Supervisor and directed the Certificate in Holistic Landscape Design program, teaching students to create healing landscapes with medicinal and edible plants. She has also coordinated several educational events including Bastyr University's Herb and Food Fair, the American Herbalists Guild's 23rd Annual Symposium, and an upcoming conference benefiting United Plant Savers to be held at Herb Pharm in June 2019. Welcome back. This is another episode of Meathead Hippie podcast. I am your host, Emily Schramm, a

0:07.1

meathead, and a hippie, and I am so glad you are here. I am a personal trainer, nutritional

0:12.0

therapy practitioner, and serial entrepreneur. And I was at an event recently. I went to a Bumble

0:17.0

biz event who, one of my good friends, Sh Shalisa in Denver, runs these great panels and

0:23.1

talks and just brings women together. And there was somebody on the panel and I should remember

0:28.4

her name and I will try to find it. But she was talking about how wherever we are, we just kind of

0:35.5

dilute ourselves. So when we're networking or introducing ourselves,

0:39.2

we kind of just mumble or we aren't as like confident or we feel confident. And then at some

0:45.5

point in our life, something made that confidence not as strong. And so I was like,

0:49.5

damn, I think I do that. So I'm going to do a full intro today in case it's your first time listening to me.

0:55.2

And if it's not your first time listening to me, I apologize, but I hope this inspires you to shake

1:00.0

somebody's hand and tell them exactly who you are and what you want to do today. So I started off my

1:05.6

first business in 2012, launching Unleash Fitness, which is a nutrition and online strength training, but really just

1:13.5

programs for anybody to tap into. So those are all found on Emilystrom.com, 21 days, $21, and then

1:20.4

variations of different strength programs for at home, on the go, but also in the gym. So they can get pretty equipment

1:29.1

heavy, but they also can be done with the M-PAC. So super proud of what has become M-Fit and really

1:36.3

looking at the Facebook group and this podcast and the YouTube videos that I do, that is to service

1:43.2

this amazing M-Fit tribe that I have. And I'm just so

1:46.7

grateful for you guys. I launched my second company in 2016, Evolve Motion. So it's a backpack

1:52.8

turned weight training back. And then it turned into a tea company because I could not get

1:58.8

my hands on enough herbs. And that's what today's podcast is really

2:02.6

about. And I think you're going to love it. I also have two more companies, the Body Awareness Project
