This provoked the Bar Kokhba Revolt in 132 AD. The leader, Simon Bar Kosa, took the messianic title Bar Kokhba, meaning "Son of the Star," and was accepted as the Messiah by some leading rabbis, including Rabbi Akiva.

And perhaps the leading rabbi of the day, Rabbi Akiva, a beloved figure in Judaism to this day, accepted him as the Messiah.
