Summary

In this high-velocity Round 2 Q&A, Cody McBroom is joined by Arielle DeYampert, Director of Coaching at Tailored Coaching Method, to answer 15 burning questions for online fitness and nutrition coaches. Putting 60 seconds on the clock for each topic, they move past the "fluff" to provide tactical, intuition-led answers derived from over a decade of industry experience.

From the psychological nuances of onboarding to the raw math of business scaling, this episode is a masterclass in professionalizing your online coaching practice.

In this episode, we dive into:

- The Onboarding Error: Why failing to set appropriate expectations is the number one mistake new coaches make.

- The Check-in Container: How to streamline weekly responses to 5–10 minutes while maintaining deep client connection.

- Reducing Churn: Why you should treat the client in front of you as if they are the only lead you will ever get.

- The "Coach’s Cap": A realistic look at how many clients one coach can handle (hint: it's between 50–60) before the service begins to downgrade.

- Sales Call Mastery: Why features don't sell—benefits and human connection do.

- Systemization vs. Customization: Using principles as your "templates" and methods for your individual tweaks.

- Knowing When to Hire: Why Cody believes you should experience burnout once to truly understand your capacity before delegating.

- The Proof of Concept: Why lack of transformations or social proof is the ultimate red flag in a coaching business.

Whether you are trying to break past your first 10 clients or looking to automate your billing and administrative "dirt" to focus back on the craft, this episode provides the "Choose Hard" blueprint for your business growth.

What's the number one onboarding mistake new coaches make?

0:02.4

Not setting expectations.

0:03.8

Set appropriate expectations for their goal in alignment with whatever is going on. There's so much noise out there. People will be skewed. You don't know what they're coming in with. And so no matter what, even if they tell you, well, I've tracked before, set appropriate expectations pertaining to their goal. One thing that people do wrong in sales calls is talk features instead of benefits. They don't give shit about what software used.

Coaching Method. And we're going to do a rapid fire. I didn't do my intro on the last podcast we did. I was, I noticed that as soon as you said that, I was like, oh, you didn't say that. It's pretty good, huh? Can we tell them about the game we played, the voice game? Yeah. I'm excited.

1:08.3

It's a trend.

1:09.9

So there's a trend that I saw like.

1:12.1

I'm the least trendy person.

1:13.5

I never see like every time you're like, have you seen the trend with this? I'm like, no, I don't even know. I got to up to you. Welcome. But there was a trend and essentially, I saw, I originally saw it, my daughter's school did it. Her teacher was facing this way and they would and they went

1:27.6

through and they would say and she guessed who the student was. And then, you know, I saw Lila Hermosey do it. That would be hard too. I saw Lila Hermosey do it with her staff. They were like, hey, Layla or whatever and she had to guess who it was. And I was like, I want to do this with my clients. So I just asked yesterday a handful of them to send me a voice note.

1:45.9

And I said to them, you know, it is online coaching and I don't see them every day, like as in a school and kids or like Lila with her work staff. So I was like, you can give me a couple of details, but don't say your name, like things outside of like, you like match and sourdough or whatever it is and so when we were playing them though I did know their voices

2:03.8

Yeah, you didn't have to there wasn't a single person that we got to any of the details
