The Senate has voted to confirm the promotion of General CQ Brown as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

It comes as Alabama Senator Tommy Tupperville has held up more than 300 military promotions

for months.

Tuberville opposes a Defense Department policy that reimbursed travel costs for

service members who had across state lines for an abortion. Instead of voting on

the nominations as a block, the Senate is being forced to vote on some positions individually.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer warned today that Tuberville's actions could set a precedent

for senators using popular nominees to gain political leverage.

The Senate runs on unanimous consent,
