| 0:48.9 | right? What we call it now, it's not new. We all went to school with that kid. Sure. |
| 2:03.7 | They didn't have a name for it, right? So like my brother had horrible sleep happening when we were growing up. We just didn't know it. So what we said is he snores ridiculously. And he's one of those guys that would snore that kind of like stop breathing for a second. Right. And then get back to snore. And we were just used to it because that's what he did. You didn't realize it was a dangerous thing. Right. It was just he's allowed snore. Now it's like, oh, I have sleep apnea. Looking back, no kidding. So I think it gets a little bit worse because the second bit that they give us here is despite its prevalence, up to 80% of cases of sleep apnea are undiagnosed. I believe that. Many people don't realize that they have OSA because it occurs during their sleep. Many symptoms such as waking tiredness, daytime sleepiness, fatigue, lethargy, high blood pressure, and they're all blamed on other factors and other causes. That's the problem of things you do in your sleep, unless there's someone in the bed. Right. you know, to tell you that, like, nobody knows they snore until someone tells them that they snore. Exactly. To keep on going on that, Steve, not everybody who snores has sleep apnea. Understood. But almost everyone with sleep apnea snores. Snores, yeah, exactly. Loud persistent snoring is the most common warning sign of OSA, but a small portion of apnea sufferers do not snore. |
| 3:10.3 | They're known as silent apneics. Apneics. Silent apneics. It's actually worse. It's not a queen's race on? Sleep. Silent apneics, yeah. It's actually worse because people notice a snorer stopping when they have an apneic event, whereas a silent apneaic does not get noticed. So there's the difference. Yeah, my brother, we knew, because he was not making himself, but it was the... Right. But through all my childhood, we just said, that's how he sleeps. Now, we would say, like, bro, go, go get that taken care of. I think it took so long just because snoring was just so prevalent. It's just what people did. And every cartoon, every TV show, every comedy movie, just to indicate that someone's asleep, they snored. And more to your point, look at all that pop culture, is that it even simulates sleep apnea, which is the loss of, you can't breathe anymore for a hot second. It's just disturbed snores at that point, but they don't actually take it into an account, and you can't react to it. You're not because you're sleeping, so you're not saying, I can't breathe. You're just snoring. So it goes completely undiagnosed. they don't even give it a name because you're just snoring. Yeah, exactly. Then people start dying from this dog-gum thing. Like, let's figure out what's happening. Yeah, my brother was real bad. Yeah, I might need to get checked out. I've got an eye twitch that won't stop and I wonder if it's because I'm not sleeping right. I don't want to have to do this, man.
