The death toll keeps rising.

Hi there, I'm CNN, I'm Paula Ortiz with the five things you need to know for Saturday, September 9th.

According to Moroccan State TV, more than 1,000 people have died after a powerful 6.8 magnitude

earthquake struck the city of Marrakesh in Morocco.

Over 1,000 others have been injured. The quake is the deadliest

the North African country has seen in decades. Rescue teams are still

searching for victims but are having a hard time reaching the most affected

areas. Officials are urging citizens to remain calm and to donate blood to help out victims.

The D20 summit continues in India with the host Prime Minister Norendermody saying a consensus has been reached on a

leader's decoration. However, the summit is happening without Russian President Vladimir Putin

and China's Xi Jinping. The White House says their absence is a quote disappointment to India.

Yeah Paula, the G20 members here in India, they have managed to overcome stark differences they've issued

a joint statement a leaders declaration that stops short of condemning Russia's

full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but does highlight the enormous toll

that the war is having on the global economy, particularly on poorer countries.

It also addresses climate change urging a tripling of

renewable energy capacity by 2030 and also the G20 has announced that the African Union will now join this club and that could require a name change since currently the G20 consists of 19 countries and the European Union so technically it might now be the G21.

Category 3 Hurricane Lee hasn't made landfall yet,

but the storm is moving quickly with forecaster saying it could affect the U.S. as soon as this weekend.

The hurricane which had reached category 5 strength has weakened,

but experts don't rule out the possibility of its strengthening again,
