Halloween 2019. And we begin with a nail-biter of a game 7, capping off a world series full of firsts.

The Washington Nationals who didn't get on the board until the seventh inning last night

beat the Astros six to two in Houston, capturing their first championship as a franchise.

Before last night, no team had ever won four road games in a single series.

And in a sport often dominated by youth, the Nats roster boasts the oldest players in the MLB on average.

And while this is the Washington National's first win,

the nation's capital has been home to a World Series winner before back in

1924 when their hometown team was the Washington Senators. A slow night for one

police force turned into a big Halloween win for some elementary school

kids.

Sergeant Mark White was working the midnight shift in Wensville, Missouri when he came across

a Facebook post from a local teacher with students who

couldn't afford a costume for their class Halloween party. Not wanting anyone to

feel left out, the officer shared the dress-up dilemma with a few colleagues and then headed over to the 24-hour Walmart.

Six of the town's finest pooled together money to buy ten costumes, which they left, with a note, in the school's office.

Sergeant White says it's all about helping the community

and making sure everyone could participate.

The nation's report card is out

and it's not one you'd want your parents to have to sign.

Every two years the Department of Education tests the reading and math skills of some fourth and eighth graders in public schools across the country.

Continuing a decade-long trend, the results are described as dismal.
