sounding the alarm. More than 850 public figures from Nobel laureates to former military leaders

to artists and even British royalty signed a statement yesterday calling for a pause in the development of super

intelligence, a form of AI that would surpass human brain power.

Their concern, according to CNBC, is that the technology, if unchecked, could endanger

freedoms, civil liberties, national security, and more.

The list includes people in and out of tech from all political backgrounds,

including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Prince Harry, rapper Will I.M.,

and five Nobel laureates, including AI researcher Jeffrey Hinton.

They ask that any superhuman AI development be regulated to make sure there is public

buy-in and a broad scientific consensus that it will be done safely and controllably.

As people across the U.S. feel the effects of the government shutdown, one man is literally

feeling it in his legs.

Ultra Runner and Washington, D.C. content creator Rob Perez, has added a mile to his daily

run for each day the shutdown continues. On day one, he ran one mile. Day two, it was two.

Today, he'll do 23, all the while educating his followers about the government,

such as who counts as an essential worker, what is a filibuster, and why voting in local elections

is important. According to the Washington Post, Perez should have completed 190 miles by

last Sunday, but instead is well over 230 because he also ran in the Chicago and

Baltimore marathons. Perez hopes the shutdown gives out before his legs do, but says his pain

pales in comparison to that of unpaid government workers. Imagine what they're going through,

he said, and I'm just out here simply running.
