Today is Wednesday, October 12, 2022, and we begin with a smashing success among the stars.

After two weeks of study, NASA has proudly declared mission accomplished in its efforts

to push a rogue space rock off course.

The little dark spacecraft slammed into the asteroid Dymorphus on September 26, and at

the time scientists said they had hoped to shorten its orbit by 10 minutes.

Instead, they determined they've shaved off three times that much, and now it's even

a little bit wobbly.

The bottom line, Dymorphus will never return to its original path, which tells NASA that

it's making progress in protecting Earth.

As the head of the agency told reporters yesterday, this mission shows that NASA is trying to

be ready for whatever the universe throws at us.

They it isn't so, not even the happy-go-lucky fat bear contest can escape a cheating scandal.

The official Twitter of Katmai Park in Alaska confirmed the funny business, posting like

bears stuffed their face with fish, our ballot box too, has been stuffed.

At the heart of the hijinks was the matchup between Bear 747, also known as Bear Force

1, and Holly 435, the champ from 2019.

Bear 747 was way ahead over the weekend when out of the blue 435 received 9,000 votes

in a very short amount of time.

Explore.org did some digging and found that spam bots and fake email addresses had swamped

the ballot box.
