Before I welcome today's guest, though, I want to finish up talking about anger on the right.

People on the right and the Republican base in particular are angry about wearing masks.

They're so angry about being told to get vaccines that they refuse to, even though they're putting themselves, their children, and their friends at risk.

There's a reason that people who live in counties have voted for Donald are three times more likely to die from COVID.

They're also angry that anybody would restrict the kinds of weapons they're allowed to own because apparently that piece of metal is more important to them than the lives of our children as they've proven time and time again.

They're utterly enraged that the 2020 election was stolen from them despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary,

and they stormed the Capitol to vent their rage.

And maybe even murder the Vice President and some Congress people in the process.

But the Republican base doesn't need evidence when lies will do.

So where is all of this anger coming from?

Honestly, I think it's mostly fear.

It's fear that stoked by cynical political leaders that keep the base unsettled and insecure about what they believe is their rightful place at the top of the hierarchy.

In America, we've so thoroughly equated good and privileged in power with whiteness that some people would rather identify with slavers than risk giving up privilege they believe is rightfully theirs.

That's the fear underlying the big lie that Donald tapped into.

The idea that your white rights are more important than everybody else's.

The belief that the votes of women, blacks and Jews were allowed to count at all. The inescapable reality of the changing demographics that will render white people a permanent minority.
