This is John Batchelor, speaking with colleague Judy Dempsey,

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. She's in Berlin about migration, not just in Germany,

but all of Europe, but in particular we speak here of the Syrian refugees from 2010, 2011, and onward that during the Syrian Civil War,

millions.

The estimate has been 15 million fled that country.

Germany, beginning in 2015, opened its doors generously to people coming from the Middle East,

especially Syria.

So I asked Judy, are they returning?

There is said to be stability, a lifting of sanctions.

Are they going home?

And Judy answers variously because it's a challenge to the Germans,

not only with the Syrians from the refugee crisis of the civil war,

but the civil war in Afghanistan, the civil war in Iraq,

all the civil wars in the Middle East, coming to Germany. Germany is very generous, very well

organized, but there's Judy on the advantage of a alternative for Deutschland has as long as it

preaches that it could solve the migration problem,

no one's solving it right away.
