We'll go ahead and get started at the beginning of First Epistle of St. Peter,

chapter one, verse one.

So, begins, Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the Pilgrims of the Dispersion, in Pontus, Gal, begins, Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ to the pilgrims of the dispersion

in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bethinia.

Um, so we'll go ahead and pause there. As we already mentioned, we already mentioned

where those provinces are and Claudius. and, um, and all of that.

St. Peter here does something similar to what St. Paul does when I say that as we go forward

and that we talked about with St. Paul's epistles, he would kind of seed themes, right,

that he was going to develop later in the letter. He'd sort of seed those into his opening,

right? So even this here, this idea of pilgrims or aliens or strangers or sojourners,

he's seeding that in, He's going to develop that later.

And the things he's going to talk about in the next couple verses, likewise,

are things that he's going to later develop.

Verse two, elect according to the foreknowledge of God, the Father,

in sanctification of the spirit for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.

So elect according to the foreknowledge of God.

Sorry, Calvinists.
