Summary

Swami Sarvapriyananda teaches the Mundaka Upanishad which one of the major Upanishads belonging to the Atharva Veda. Mundaka means ''shaved'' like a shaved head. The teachings revealed in this Upanishad are meant to leave the student clean, or shaved of the veil of ignorance. Indeed, the study of this Upanishad has been traditionally confined to the shaven-heads, or the sannyasins, who have renounced everything and devoted themselves exclusively to contemplation. The book consists of 64 Mantras (verses) split across Mundakas (parts) and Khandas (sections) as follows: Mundaka 1 - Khanda 1 - 9 mantras (1.1.1 - 1.1.9) Mundaka 1 - Khanda 2 - 13 mantras (1.2.1 - 1.2.13) Mundaka 2 - Khanda 1 - 10 mantras (2.1.1 - 2.1.10) Mundaka 2 - Khanda 2 - 11 mantras (2.2.1 - 2.2.11) Mundaka 3 - Khanda 1 - 10 mantras (3.1.1 - 3.1.10) Mundaka 3 - Khanda 2 - 11 mantras (3.2.1 - 3.2.11) Reference books: 1. moxha, liberation, how does that person get liberation, enlightenment and freedom? And Sri Ramachandra tells him that you should study the Manduky Upanishat

Mumukshunam Vimuktai manukyam Iama for the liberation of those who seek

0:49.3

liberation there's a precondition there that one must seek seek liberation. So those who seek liberation, for them, the Mandu'i Upanishan is sufficient.

And then suppose if you study the Mandu Kupin, study means studies in that way,

fulfilling the preconditions and really trying to grasp it.

1:08.0

And you still don't get liberation you don't get

1:11.1

Moksha then what and then Ramachandra proceeds to give a list of one hundred and a

1:16.5

two punishes including the Mandukia so that's pretty threatening that if you don't

1:20.5

get liberation by studying the Mandu K have this whole syllabus of 108 Upanishads

1:25.0

so that's why I started with the Mandu Kipaniakur Panisha it's also my favorite of 108 Upanishads.

1:30.3

So that's why I started with the Manduky Upanishad. It's also my favorite.

1:32.3

It's a shortest, extraordinarily powerful, gets directly to the point.

1:36.3

And the Mandukya Karika is one of the foundational texts of Adwaiata Vedant.

1:41.3

Manduqya Karika composed by Gaudapada, Shankaracharya's Guru,

1:47.0

about 14 or 1500 years ago. So that is pre-Shankaracharya, but it's foundational for

1:54.5

Advaitha Vedanta, the Mandukya Upanishad with the Manduqya Karika. And then after completing that,

it's like going straight to the top of Mount Everest.
