0:32.4	We started First Kings which is only sort of like an entirely new thing. It's more like the third part of four books but you know as the Bible is divided it's a new book same characters that we're beginning with anyway and so last week we saw a very old David
0:51.4	he's uh he's not able to get warm. He's a little unaware of what's going on in his kingdom.
0:57.0	He's not really out there taking in the happenings of Israel.
1:04.0	And so he's near death, his son, his eldest remaining son,
1:09.0	knows this and is assuming that the kingdom is soon going to be his so he's taking steps to
1:14.8	ensure that that is the case and
1:17.7	Bassheba and the prophet Nathan have different ideas
1:22.2	about this and so they they have someone else in mind and
1:25.8	so they have gone to David together one at a time but they've concocted this together
1:31.8	and they've gone to David and I guess reminded him of a promise that he made or maybe didn't make we're not sure maybe he made it maybe he didn't anyway they say that he made it that Solomon would be king. Now David
1:46.2	seems like he's in the state that if he didn't make this promise maybe he could be convinced that he did or maybe in fact he did make this promise and he's being legitimately reminded of it.
1:58.6	We're not told and we're not sure we don't have anything before this of him making that
2:03.9	promise but then again you know we don't have every word that David ever
2:07.6	spoke so we don't know we could only guess but uh David is not finally going to do something though.
2:13.3	Yeah, he's finally going to rouse himself.
2:15.6	You know, we start out this book with David being old, can't stay warm.
2:22.0	He's no longer able to be sexually active. So the beginning
2:27.8	portrait of David is of a king who's basically he's got a lame duck
2:31.7	presidency as we would say here in the in the states
