we'll be picking up in St. Paul's first epistle to the Corinthians

chapter 11 verse 17, because we left off last time kind of in the middle of a chapter because we left off

the previous time in the middle of a chapter we'll see where we end up today just to kind of

get us caught up really quickly because I don't think we need too much of the back context for what we're talking

about tonight, but we're in the middle of a section where St. Paul has sort of been weaving

together two topics. He's been talking about the importance of them not eating food offered to idols, no longer participating in

the pagan worship that's going on in Corinth that many of them used to participate in, and some

of them unfortunately are still participating in, in addition to coming to the church and

celebrating the Eucharist. And then he's also been relatedly talking about

the Eucharist. So he's sort of explaining on the positive side what the Eucharist is and how it works

and what it does in the church. And then on the negative side saying, and so you need to stop

the pagan worship and the outside worship. And in the midst of that, he's addressed a whole

bunch of different topics. We talked last time right at the end. He sort of digressed a little bit

to talk about women in the church. But we talked about how, even though there was some weirdness to

that, that we won't go into again, but that he talked about that in that context because what
