And we're thrilled to speak to Anatole Zach of the Russian Space Web.

That's a subscription site I recommend because the history of

spaceflight begins with Russ Cosmos, the very successful man space program run by the then Soviet Union now the Russian Federation.

Apollo Soyuz, this is detente time.

Apollo Soyuz was a crude international space mission, jointly carried out by the U.S. and Soviet Union

in July of 75.

It was thrilling, millions of people watched it on thrilling. The handshaken space was a symbol of detente.

These were two nuclear-armed states who, for decades had been looking for the two big dogs gonna fight lesson in pointing weapons at each other since the second war.

D'Tant was the work of Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, and the Kremlin leadership to step back from the brink that regarded every air and aircraft or missile test as a possible

prelude to a nuclear exchange. At the time the witticism was we don't know what the third world war will be like

but we certainly know we'll fight the fourth with rocks. That was the

atmosphere of Apollo Soyuz and this mission had a lot of prep, a lot of preparation for the boosters, the train personnel, the matching together of two entirely different systems.

The NASA system was follow-on.

NASA was always chasing the Soyuz system

with the various boosters and the plan for Moon Landing.

That was to be the capstone.

And the Moon Landing happened in 69,

and yet the space programs continued.
