Mogadishu Somalia, Black Hawk Dow. I welcome Bill Rajov the Foundation for the

Defense of democracies, my colleague and co-host, and we welcome Caleb Weiss of the Bridgeway Foundation, also of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy's Long War Journal,

writing most recently about an event in 1993 that was a major hit of a movie in the fall of 2001 while

New York continued to burn and so did the Pentagon smolder.

Those two events, the original Black Hawk Down during the Clinton administration and the

movie Black Hawk Down during the Bush administration, need a connection here in

2023 and that is was al-Qaeda present in any fashion during Mogadishu of the 90s, the same al-Qaeda that is linked to al-Shabaab

on the eve of what appears to be the takeover of Somalia by an Al-Qaeda-linked organization.

Yeah, so basically one of Al-Shababs, you know, Deputy Amirs, Mahakarte, was part of this, you know, so-called documentary that

Shabab released on, but they explicitly set the block down

incident. And in this Mahakarte goes on a little bit of a tangent of thanking and congratulating Al Qaeda for their role in that battle.

Mahicarte kind of repeats what Shabab has often said. They've said this a couple times now that at least 10 Al-Qaeda figures were involved in this battle.
