I welcome Grant Newsom, Colonel U.S. Marine Corps retired author of When China Attacks.

I'm most concerned about how Grant has heard and viewed the last 14 days of the

roiling of the world markets with regard to the Trump administration's demand that the

trade balance and the tariff barriers be adjusted for fairness. That's a word the president

likes a deal. It's not meant to be specific. It's in general and understanding that there are

many strong nations who have a trade imbalance with the U.S. that Mr. Trump once corrected.

In addition, there are tariff barriers to U.S. products that are not reciprocated by the U.S.

heretofore.

The reciprocal tariffs that Mr. Trump has proposed are aspirational, but at the same time negotiable.

In general, how have these days gone from your understanding?

Many years in Japan, many years in the Pacific, and also since your book was published,

very clearly there's grave concern growing all the time that

China's a threat. How's it going, Grant? Good evening to you. Well, good evening, John. I think the

tariff scheme or offensive has actually worked pretty well. You would have thought from the

commentarius reaction after the first day or two that Armageddon was upon us.

But you'll see, we live, we get along and people adjust to things.

They understand a little more of what the president is trying to do and what he has in mind.

And then each country decides what it wants to do in response.

And does it want to act on resentment of being asked to do some things differently
