Golden Dome, originally Iron Dome, now Golden Dome.

I welcome Josh Rogan of the Washington Post writing his comments on an elaborate report about Golden Dome

because this is very big time defense thinking

into the future. Josh, a very good evening to you. Let us begin with the name itself. It was first

mentioned to my knowledge by the President of the United States in one or two speeches and in an

executive order, I believe, something about it in January. Where did the term

Golden Dome come from? Do we know who first used it? Good evening to you. Well, good evening,

John. Everyone's heard of Israel's Iron Dome system, multi-layer missile shield to stop Israel from being attacked from outside of its borders.

This is the origin of the term Golden Dome, but it doesn't quite do it justice because President Trump's vision for Golden Dome is not to protect a territory around the size of Israel, which is about the size of New Jersey,

but rather to protect the entire continental United States from any hypersonic ballistic

or otherwise cruise missile shot from anywhere on the earth or anywhere in space.

So it is by several orders of magnitude much bigger, more complex, more difficult,

more technologically ambitious than Iron Dome ever was. But yeah, it was Trump. He likes the term

Iron Dome, so he made it Golden Dome, just like he took the green card and made it a gold card.

And this is his signature defense initiative for his first term.

What I've learned is pay attention to the leadership, and you know where it's going.

General Michael Gutelin, Guttline, Vice Chief of Space Operations, is named as the leader of Golden Dome.

Who is he? What do we need to know about him?

Right. So the president late last month announced the first $175 billion commitment for the Golden

Doe Project, and there's about $25 billion of that already set to be appropriated later this year.
