Dempsey of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, looking at Germany and France,

the two giant economies in the European Union, the EU being a major trading partner for the

United States these many decades, and also right now in the mix of the excitement, enthusiasm,

mystery of tariffs, and the mix of the excitement, enthusiasm, mystery of tariffs and the conversation by the President-elect in Florida about tariffs to be visited upon foes and friends. However, we

begin with Germany because there is a political campaign underway, and it leads to a parliamentary vote, a Bundestag vote,

in a few days' time in December, where it is arranged the government will lose the confidence of the people
