I on the world, I'm John Bachelor.

Four years ago, March, 2020, a day a month that will live in infamy for the next hundred years when bad decisions were made

by the leaders of the United States of America and we're still unpacking those bad decisions.

Why they were made is interesting. What's important is how

we responded to those bad decisions, how we're learning from what we did. I

welcome David Henderson, a research felt the Hoover Institution, also teaches economics

and that's important here because we're going to talk about economics and bad decisions and central planning,

all within the context of COVID-19.

David, a very good evening to you.

Your piece of defining ideas for the Hoover Institution is compelling because we all lived through it.

I didn't know that I wanted to live through it again when I started reading your essay, but here we are.

You're in Monterrey, I'm in Connecticut.

When the virus started out, you were in Monterrey, I was in Manhattan.

We each have our own experiences,

but my experience of California,

because I didn't travel there there was one day in April.

There was a video that I saw of the city of San Clemente ordering a

bulldozer to cover a roller skate rink on the beach with sand. It was

grotesquely overdone. Subsequently, dirt pikers came along and cleared some of the sand out and enjoyed it anyway.

But the excuse at the time was we can't have young people congregating because they'll pass on the virus.

That was how I experienced California.
