Summary

We have all experienced those moments when something happens that takes all your time away from getting your to-do list checked off for the day. Like when you have to deal with a behavior issue that erupted during recess in the middle of your planning period. When you have an emergency and need to rethink your plans for the week. When your coworker comes in to vent leaving you no time to make copies. We get hundreds of messages from teachers just like you that share all kinds of situations that take up all their time. We call these Time Sucking Hurdles. Normally, we answer one TSH a week at the start of every podcast but because of the overwhelming response, we wanted to dedicate an entire episode sharing TSH’s from teachers all over and our response to them.  We hope you can relate to these TOP Teachers and also get a little advice that you can take back to your own classroom. Keep those Time sucking hurdles coming!   SUBMIT YOUR TIME SUCKING HURDLE! We want to know what is sucking up all of your time either as a teacher or just a person. We receive a lot of TSHs. You all know time-sucking hurdles, right? Those things that are just

0:20.7

taking away all of your time.

0:22.6

But unfortunately, we can't always include them in every podcast episode, right? Like we receive more

0:28.4

than the number of episodes that we do. So in today's episode, we are going to share 10 extra

0:35.0

TSHs and we're going to respond to them. Yeah. So, should we just go ahead

0:40.5

and start? I mean, I feel like we're not in our normal flow because like, you know,

0:45.3

normally we all do the TSA. We have like a whole thing that we kind of build up to. I think we're

0:51.4

just going to go for it. Let's just do it. Okay. So let's start off with the

0:56.3

TSAH from Mandy. Mandy says, my time-sucking hurdle is moving between different programs to

1:01.6

communicate with my students. I'm using Canvas, which is our LMS, class dojo, email, our county

1:07.6

grade book, clever papers, et cetera. I would love to focus on one program,

1:14.0

but students and their families have preferences and do not all respond through the same mode

1:18.3

of communication. I understand that, but it is taking a lot of time. Thank you both for your

1:24.1

creative, tough love podcast each week. you have helped me improve as an educator

1:28.5

and person oh i'm happy she mentioned tough love because i feel like i'm going to give a little bit

1:33.8

okay here's where my mind went when you read that it made me think about and i'm not a parent

1:40.6

so i'm just saying this from things that I have observed. I feel like when

1:45.8

parents give their kids too many options, it's almost like you're giving the kids a little bit too much

1:51.6

power, right? So I think about if a parent is giving their kids like, well, what do you want for dinner?
