Summary

We are back with another episode discussing Does Balance Really Exist? Almost one year ago we had a great discussion on the reality of balance and how each task that we do is either a plastic ball or glass ball. As the many teachers online are sharing this lens of looking at balance, we want to set the record straight on how to view plastic and glass balls.  We then dive into the discussion of whether or not there is such a thing as balance. You won’t want to miss this chatty and power discussion as we uncover the truths behind the many hats we wear as teachers and how changing our mindsets can help us achieve clarity into obtaining a work-life balance.  In this episode we share:  How we've changed in our thinking about the seasons of life We all go through adjustment periods and while it may be wobbling at first, you have to know that it will take time to gain your footing and feel more in control Balance is a sliding scale of work and pleasurable activities and we have full control of where we are on the scale We need to recognize that balance looks different for everyone. You have to determine what this means to you.  If you haven’t listened to our first discussion around balance, check out episode 045: The REALITY of Establishing Balance to take a listen.    SUBMIT YOUR TIME SUCKING HURDLE! This is going to be a chatty episode. We want to discuss balance again, but we want to take a deep dive into whether or not balance actually

0:23.8

exists because that seems like a huge debate amongst all the adults, but also teachers,

0:31.4

to be honest. Yeah, especially teachers. Especially teachers. But first, let's hear a TSA,

0:37.3

a time-sucking hurdle from Morgan.

0:40.5

Morgan says, a huge hurdle for me is not having my to-do lists and list of priorities ready for

0:46.6

working periods. I'm a morning person and arrive at school between 6.45 a.m. and 7 a.m. contract time is 6.30 a.m. So I prefer to get as much done before the

0:57.6

school day begins or the calm before the storm. Sometimes I have my to-do list ready to go and I'm able to be

1:04.4

productive. Other times, I feel as though I'm just winging it and getting as much, and getting, hold on,

1:10.7

and getting as much done that I can think

1:13.1

of before the school day begins. I knew I was going to find it along the way. It just wasn't there yet.

1:17.3

I'm working on keeping the to-do lists up to date, consistent, and in one place. So I'm not looking for

1:24.0

tasks to complete. Morgan, I am a morning person too, and those to-do lists can either

1:30.2

make you or they can break you. I struggled with this for the longest, and I highly recommend

1:37.2

that you go to episode 087 if you haven't already. This is Google Tasks, the what, why, and how

1:42.7

for teachers. We go into how to use Google

1:45.4

tasks and it has completely changed my productivity this past year. This is really going to help

1:50.8

you in establishing your to do list. You're never going to be searching for things to do.

1:55.8

So definitely go and give this a listen. Yeah, I can 100% agree that I am so much more productive on the days

2:03.0

when I actually have my tasks prepared. For me, having that power list has been a game changer.

2:09.7

And we discussed this in episode 087. So I keep all of my like monthly to-dos and all of my weekly to-dos in Google tasks.
