Today is Thursday, September 28th, 2023, and we begin with an American astronaut back

on Earth with a new space record in his pocket.

On his Soyuz capsule touchdown in a remote area of Kazakhstan yesterday, Frank Rubio put

an exclamation mark on 371 days on the International Space Station.

It was a surprise, even for him, since he launched with plans to spend only 180 days on

the floating lab.

But when his original ride home, which was parked just outside the station, got hit with

space junk and sprung a coolant leak, NASA was forced to double Frank's time aloft.

Astronaut Rubio ended up beating NASA's previous endurance record for a single space flight,

held by Mark Van Haye by more than two weeks.

Russia still holds the world record of 437 days set in the mid-1990s.
