Summary
In this episode of The KICK-ASS Stepmom Podcast, Julie Cole, mom of 6, blogger and founder of Mabel's Labels talks about divorce and her decision to adopt the "nesting" co-parenting style after she and her husband decided to end their marriage.
If you're not familiar, "nesting" is when two parents are no longer in a romantic relationship, but choose to co-parent their kids in the matrimonial home. Each parent attends the home during their allotted parenting time and lives somewhere else when it is not.
I just love getting into a peek of the many different types of co-parenting relationships and this one was no different.

| 0:00.0 | Hey guys, welcome back to the podcast. So we've all heard about co-parenting and parallel parenting, |
| 0:05.2 | right? So co-parenting is when you aren't together anymore, but you still parent your kids as a team |
| 0:10.8 | so you can communicate and everyone's looking at with the best interests of the kids. You try to stay on the |
| 0:15.2 | same page. Yadda, yada, yada. Parallel parenting is basically each parent just kind of does, |
| 0:22.8 | they parent how they see fit. So it's your house, your rules, my house, my rules. And you |
| 0:29.0 | really have very little to do with each other unless you need to communicate about something, |
| 0:34.4 | but it's not a regular occurrence. So today in this episode, I'm going to talk |
| 0:39.3 | about, or we are going to talk about another form of co-parenting, which basically takes co-parenting |
| 0:45.2 | to the next level, which is nesting. So if you're not familiar, nesting is when the kids |
| 0:51.7 | stay in the same home, so the family home, and then the parents |
| 0:55.8 | come and go according to their respective parenting schedules. So when it's mom's time, |
| 1:00.6 | mom will come and stay at the house. When it's dad's time, dad comes in the house and mom leaves |
| 1:05.2 | or whatever the roles are in your home. Today's episode is with Julie Cole, and she is an entrepreneur, a blogger, |
| 1:11.6 | a mom of six, the founder of Mabel's labels, which are those labels that you put on all of your |
| 1:15.7 | kids' stuff to keep track of them. I've talked about them before, and I will link them in the show |
| 1:19.0 | notes for you guys. But Julie Cole and her former husband do the nesting parenting style, |
| 1:25.6 | and they love it. So today we're diving into what that looks |
| 1:30.0 | like, how nesting works for them, just the logistics behind it. And it's super interesting |
| 1:37.9 | because, you know, in all the conversations that I have with moms and stepmoms, for me, |
| 1:43.4 | it always comes down to this. |
| 1:45.7 | There really is no one-size-fits-all approach to a co-parenting and step-family life. |
| 1:52.2 | There really is no one way or right way to do things. |
