Rich Brown who we've been loving right now thanks to his brand new course in the SBO

Academy on mastering the modes for the improvising bass player. Hey Rich, how are you doing?

I'm good. How's everything going over there? Everything's going great, man. We've been

really, really loving your new course um the modes is subject that we've

all been scratching our heads about for years and years i've spent a long time ignoring them and

your new course is all about how to um how to use them in a kind of a useful and a musical way so So, yeah, we want to pick your brains a bit more on that.

If you could just tell us about why they're so important to you

and when you had that light bulb moment, as you were saying,

where you found out, what you could do with them.

Well, they're really important to me because I, uh,

I use them almost exclusively when I play.

I'm trying,

I mean,

I say that,

but I'm trying to sort of expand on my own,

uh,

musical vocabulary in that sense and,

and try to think of things outside the modes.

But up to this point,

um, everything has been about the modes. So the light bulb moment came from me when I started to focus more on patterns, the patterns that were created

within each mode and the sound that was being created by each mode.
