Good morning, and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kim. Today is Monday, August 15, 2022.

0:06.0

And we begin with the Space Coast of Florida bracing for the arrival of 100,000 visitors,

0:12.4

all hoping to witness history. Two weeks from today, NASA hopes to launch its most powerful rocket

0:18.5

yet, the 322-foot tall Artemis 1, a monster of a space-launched system that will be topped off

0:25.7

with an Orion capsule, crewed by three intergalactic test dummies. Their 42-day journey around

0:32.1

the moon and back will officially usher in the Artemis era, and set the stage for humans to land

0:38.2

on the lunar surface as soon as 2025. But so far, enthusiasm hasn't been as feverish as NASA had

1:41.2

Facebook. Its use among teens dropped from 71% in 2015 to just 32% now. Twitter and Tumblr also

1:50.4

took a nose dive. The tippy top of our planet isn't as cold as it used to be, or should be.

1:58.3

According to researchers in Finland, the Arctic is warming four times faster than anywhere else,

2:03.9

not two times faster as previously believed. And north of Norway and Russia, some parts are

2:09.7

reportedly warming seven times faster. Why does it matter? Because what happens in the Arctic

2:15.3

doesn't stay in the Arctic. Not only do melting ice sheets contribute to rising sea levels around

2:21.2

the globe, but the rising Arctic temperature may also be influencing extreme rainfall and heat
