And we begin with the country saying goodbye to a literary icon.

Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning novelist Tony Morrison passed away this week at the age of 88.

The granddaughter of a slave Morrison grew up poor in Ohio and started writing in her late 30s, becoming the first black woman to receive a

Nobel Prize in literature.

Her first novel, The Bluest Eye, became a classic, telling the story of an 11-year-old black girl who longed for blue eyes.

Morrison's work centered around race relations and in one she purposely forced readers

to guess the race of the characters to prove that their race didn't matter.

Morrison said race is the least reliable information you can have about someone.

It's real information, but it tells you next to nothing.

What's better than one Halloween?

If you ask the group that stands to benefit,

the answer is two.

The Halloween and costume association has already proposed moving the entire holiday to the last Saturday

in October to allow for earlier and presumably longer trick-or-treating, less bedtime stress,

and more flexibility for working parents.

That didn't get much traction.

So now the group is suggesting Halloween's day on October 31st, but a new national

trick-or-treat day be created for a late October Saturday.

Your moms and dads spent $9 billion on fake cobwebs, costumes, and candy last year.

Doubling the holiday could mean double the spending.
