Today is Wednesday, August 2, 2023, and we begin with Cape Cod, Massachusetts, finding

itself on a list that's raising eyebrows and maybe a few goose bumps.

According to a just-release study, the popular vacation destination is not only a hot

spot for humans, it's also a favorite among great white sharks.

That these toothy tourists like to visit in the summer and fall has been known for decades.

What's new is the numbers.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, UMass Dartmouth and the State's Fisheries Division

have determined that 800 of the beasts spent time around the Cape during a recent four-year

period, making it one of the biggest and busiest watery shark parks in the world.

The study is the first ever great white population estimate for the Northwest Atlantic, and

researchers hope their findings help bring awareness to shark conservation efforts.

Great whites are an endangered species with fewer than 4,000 left on the planet.

The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team has made it to the knockout round of the World Cup,

but just barely, playing against a club it's beaten 10 times in a row, the best they

could muster yesterday was a scoreless draw.

And if not for Portugal missing a stoppage time shot by inches, the U.S. would be out entirely.

Going in, they were the favorite, now not so much, with analysts calling their play

lackluster and uninspired.

Adding to the drama, post-game pictures of the team celebrating with selfies and dancing,
