Since we're going to deal with the second and the sun that is non-controversial, by the way, just give us a little recap of what we talked about last time around those words and the sun and the nice increase.

Sure. So last time we covered that the spirit proceeds, we noted that we can't tell the difference between proceeding and forgetting that God reveals that to us in His Word.

The proceeds from the Father and the Son, and we noted that there are really two questions that arise about this addition, which sort of first started in Spain and spread from there through the Western Church finally even adopted in Rome.

And the first question is, is it theologically correct? And the second question is, was it canonically sound for a part of the church to amend the creed that belongs to the whole church?

Now, that it was theologically correct. We hopefully saw demonstrated it last week from the Holy Scriptures, and we heard it witness to not just by St. Augustine in the West, but also by St. Cyril of Alexandria in the East.

I think given the Lutheran history with the variata, the private changes that Melanthin just kept on tinkering with in the Augsburg Confession that finally even shifted its meaning in some points, well we can have sympathy with the objection to anyone's treating the church's public confession as a private document that can be amended.
