Today is Monday, July 31st, 2023, our first day back on the air after our short summer

break.

And we begin with a rising high school sophomore from New Jersey making soccer headlines

9,000 miles away and on the biggest stage possible.

Casey Fair of Somerset County just became the youngest person, man or woman, to ever

play in the world cup.

She was just 16 years and 26 days when she stepped on the field last week for her birth

country of South Korea.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Casey is part of a youth movement that's exploded

in the U.S., which is now helping reshape the game globally.

Two slightly older 16 year olds, Julia Dragone of Italy and Shaka Scott of Costa Rica,

have also seen 2023 World Cup action.

As one coach put it, the thinking used to be, if you're old enough, you're good enough.

Now it's, if you're good enough, you're old enough.

If the scientists are right, this July, which wraps up today, will prove to be the hottest

on record and perhaps the warmest month human civilization has ever seen.

The U.S. Southwest, California, mid-Atlantic states, and New England have all spent weeks

in the grip of sweaty temps as have parts of southern Europe and China.

At least for those in Phoenix, Arizona, relief may be in sight.

With some on-sunal help from other nature, today could be the first day in more than 30

that the city sees a rating below 110.
