Good morning and welcome to Kid News.

We're on our summer break, but that doesn't mean we can't keep those news neurons firing

with a few of our favorite critical thinking questions.

Every day we'll bring you a Kid News classic from the past year or so, followed by a

newdler challenge to see if you can make the story your own.

This whale tale was 50 years in the making.

In April, we found out there's real hope for one of the oldest orcas in captivity.

Lolita is 57 and has spent almost her entire life in a tank at the sea aquarium in Miami.

Getting her freed and back to her home waters of the Pacific Northwest has been the focus

of animal activists for decades.

Helped by Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Urse, a long time Lolita advocate, there's now

an agreement to place her in a natural sea pen in the Pacific near to where her family

still swims.

The planning could take 18 months or more, but once moved she'll have the opportunity

to acoustically connect with her pod, which is a fancy way of saying she'll make sounds

that could lead to a sweet reunion with her mom, who is believed to be around 100 and

still alive.

After being taught to fish for herself, handlers hope to let her out of the gate for a life

back in the wild.
