Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Monday, July 29th, 2019.

And we begin with the Great Grasshopper Invasion of 2019.

Millions and millions of the little buggers are

blanketing the city of Las Vegas in swarms so thick they're showing up as

clouds on weather radar. When they're busy they're buzzing around and flying right into

tourists on the city's famous strip. At rest they're completely covering

sidewalks, buildings and cars. Locals and visitors alike are a little creeped out and a little grossed out but

scientists say not to worry they're harmless and they'll be gone soon enough the

city like the rest of Nevada had double its normal amount of rain over the winter in spring,

and that's led to a bumper crop of the chirping bugs.

Meteorologists predict their Vegas vacation will last another two or three weeks,

and then they'll pack their bags and be on their

way.

Fort night fans already know this.

The rest of us probably not.

But over the weekend the game crowned its world champions. Players flew into New York City from all over the globe to participate.

And when they finally put their controllers down, the winners were a surprise, even to themselves. The prize for Best Team went to a pair

of underdogs, a 17-year-old from Austria and a 16-year-old from Norway. How much did they make

for a weekend of gaming? A cool $3 million to be

evenly split. The team that was favored going into the match ended up dead last, but even in defeat they're making headlines for their graciousness.

The young man who goes by the handle Twiz posted,
