Good morning and welcome to Kid News!

We're hitting the beach for a few weeks, but we're still keen to keep you in the

know and on your toes.

In May, Professor Joseph Deterri, better known as Dr. Deepsea, hit 74 days living under

water at Joules Undersea Lodge, a fixed, submerged habitat 30 feet below the surface

near Key Largo, Florida.

He was a new world record, which he set on his way to setting another, by spending

a total of 100 straight days among the fish, without fresh air, sunlight, or a home-cooked

meal, all in the name of science.

When he resurfaced in June, he began a series of medical exams to study the effects

of living in a pressurized environment on human health, aging, and disease, and potentially

how those findings might translate to protecting the bodies of astronauts in space.
