I don't know if you know how expensive malpractice insurance is.

Lawyers malpractice insurance is astronomical.

Doctors malpractice insurance is on a whole different level.

For example, if you look at obstetricians who deliver babies,

there is a 2 to 3% anomaly rate in the general population. You have a

perfectly good pregnancy. It looks great on the ultrasound. Everything's fine. Two to three

percent of those kids are born with serious medical problems. That's just the way nature makes it

work. And that means, so let's say it's

2.5, or let's say it's two kids per hundred, and there are some obstetricians that deliver 300

kids a year. Well, if it's two per hundred, that means six kids are anomalous. And you know what that

means to an obstetrician? Six lawsuits are filed. And the insurance companies have to

deliver or they have to defend. Six lawsuits per year for obstetricians that work a lot.

Medical malpractice insurance can be $120, $130,000 a year. So let me tell you what's going on

in sports medicine. The same thing is

happening. And why is that? You have top athletes who go to the doctor, have surgery, have

knee problems, they have elbow problems, and they go get surgery. And sometimes doctors screw up.

Okay.

And what ends up happening in negligence lawsuits is there's something called compensatory damages.

We've talked about this on Handel on the law for years and years, which means that pain and suffering and your income is considered when a jury or a settlement,

when a jury decides or a settlement occurs.

Well, look at the income of professional athletes over the last few years.

I mean, $25 million a year is not unheard of, and that's what the top athletes make. Well, there you are. You're a doctor.
