It's 2016 and I don't know about you, but I always start the new year with a hopeful outlook.

It always feels like I have a clean slate or a clean canvas to set and accomplish new goals

and have new experiences.

For example, today I am optimistic that I am going to finish my book in 2016.

My book, which I have tentatively titled America's First Gateway, Albany

and the Making of America, explores how the people of Albany, New York created First Dutch,

then British, and finally American identities between 1614 and

The book is a revision of my dissertation and I made some progress on it in 2015 but I really want to finish

the book because I have already started to research and write my second book, which is on the Articles of Confederation.
