Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Monday, June 10, 2024. And we begin with what some are calling an outrageous airball by those choosing the U.S. Olympic team for women's basketball.

As first reported by the athletic, Caitlin Clark did not make the cut.

Sports analyst Christine Brennan wrote in the USA Today

that part of the reason was concern

over how her millions of fans would react

to what would likely be limited playing time

compared to the returning veterans.

But had Caitlin been chosen, Miss Brennan suggests, all the new fans she's brought to the game

would tune in and the media would finally pay attention to a team that hasn't lost since

1992. Instead the sports reporter writes USA basketball will spend the first

press conference answering the question why isn't Caitlin here? Other analysts are not

shocked. They say the team is already strong and there's no need for a rookie.

Is the die cast? Maybe not. Coaches can still add the new face of the game if another player withdraws or gets injured.
