In this episode, we are speaking with retired agent Max Null, who served nearly 31 years with the FBI.

He's interviewed about his investigation of the Unabomber, terrorist Ted Kaczynski.

For 15 years, multiple agencies including the FBI, ATF, the Postal Inspection Service, and

numerous state and local police departments, worked and off 16 bombs throughout the United States, bombs that killed three and seriously maimed

and injured several victims.

Max Noel, who was planning to retire just prior to being hand-picked for the assignment, was selected

to head as the supervisor a new task force created by then Attorney General Janet Reno and FBI Director Louis Freee.

Max Noll and his multi-agency team worked with FBI management to devise a strategy to manage the

massive manpower and paper-intensive major investigation code name Unabomber.

A case that had previously frustrated and overwhelmed

all investigators involved.

Ted Kaczynski's name was among the huge list of potential suspects.

As luck would have it, the Unabomber's anonymity was finally cracked when Kaczynski released his infamous

manifesto. Null and several other members of the task force received the

Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service for their efforts.

And Max Noel, along with SAC Jim Freeman and A SAC, Terry Turci, wrote a book, Unabomber, how the FBI broke its own rules

to capture the terrorist Ted Gazinsky. It's all about how after 17 years they were finally able to identify, capture, and convict

Ted Kaczynski, the notorious Unabomber.
