So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.

What about today? Is today the worst day of your life? Yeah. Wow that's messed up.

That is a scene from the movie Office Space, in which our hero, Peter Gibbons, is visiting

an occupational hypnotherapist to hopefully help him not hate his job so much. And in the movie, Peter is a programmer at

Innetech and his work life is a world of cubicles and bosses and office

politics and corporate minutia that is

overwhelmingly soul-suckingly awful.

Hello Peter. What's happening?

We have sort of a problem here. Yeah, you apparently didn't put one of the new cover sheets on your TPS reports?

Oh, yeah, I'm sorry about that. I forgot.

Mm. Yeah. You see, we're putting the cover sheets on all TPS reports now before they go out.

Did you see the memo about this?

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I have the memo right here. I just forgot, but it's not shipping out till tomorrow, so there's no problem.

Yeah. If you could just go ahead and make sure you do

that from now on that would be great and I'll go ahead and make sure you get

another copy that memo. Okay office space came out in 1999 and

since then it has become a sort of a shorthand an inside, it's a go-to reference sheet for all the sorts of things that generally suck about work. In fact, even the movie's tagline on the poster was, work sucks, and that was like in the commercials and the trailers for it and I don't

know about you but I grew up in a culture that saw work as a necessary sin.

Most of my family they worked blue-collar jobs and therefore they had no problem with work-life

balance.

You got off work and you did not think about it until the next morning and on Sundays
