interview I conducted back in 2013 for episode six. I always thought that my interview

with psychologist Elizabeth Dunn about money and whether or not it can buy

happiness was a great and interesting interview but it was all the way

back then and now there are so many more

listeners at the show. It's available in so many more places. I would, I think it

just deserves to actually be heard and I'm representing it here. But first for the I don't know six or seven minutes I need

to address some sad news and I've already posted about this on the website I've

tweeted about it I've put it out everywhere,

but I know a lot of you actually,

you just listen to the podcast,

so I need to state it here.

And here's the thing,

I learned this week that a study

featured prominently in episode 48 has been retracted and there's a story behind it and this is the story

That episode was all about the power of contact and it talked about the contact hypothesis which was first put forth by psychologist Gordon Allport

and you may recall that the final segment of that episode dealt with canvassers in California who had

changed people's minds concerning same-sex marriage. They flipped people who were

opposed over to being in support and they had done that after three years of work on their

on their own with millions of dollars behind it thousands of people involved

developing this technique after talking to more than 12,000 strangers on their front doorsteps.

And this technique, they'd gotten it down to basically a single 22 minute conversation.
