Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kim. Today is Wednesday, May 20th, 2026. And we begin with SpaceX going bigger than it's ever gone before.

Tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. Eastern, the launch window opens for a redesigned starship moon rocket that's a few feet taller and even more powerful than its predecessor.

The flight's already been delayed twice this week, but if all goes to plan, it'll last

about 65 minutes, with the upper capsule eventually splashing down in the Indian Ocean. The stakes

for Elon Musk are pretty high. SpaceX is in a race with Blue Origin for NASA's Artemis business,

and the company is also planning to go public in June, meaning it will sell

stock to investors. It needs success on the launch pad to help dial up the excitement and the

price ahead of that opportunity, which is called an IPO or initial public offering.

Wildfire season is here, and California's two biggest can be seen from space.

In Simi Valley, near Los Angeles, fast-moving wind-wipped flames forced nearly 20,000 residents

from their homes Monday night and well into yesterday.

Officials believe the fire started when a tractor hit a rock and created a spark, also

burning a quarter of Santa Rosa Island, which is famous for being the site where North America's

oldest known human skeleton was found.
