Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori.

Today is Friday, May 17, 2019.

And we begin with a major step to try and level the playing field in the college admissions process.

In the wake of the cheating scandal that exposed wealthy parents buying spots at top universities,

the SAT exam will now include a student's adversity score.

The goal, to take into account life's challenges.

Test takers will be asked questions about the neighborhood they live in, their family income

level, how many AP classes are offered at their high school,

and whether English is their primary language.

The College Board, which administers the test, will present the results to admissions officers right alongside the student's SAT score.

50 colleges participated in the new process this year and another 150 will come on board
